Muay Thai’s ancestral land brought about several legends since the popularization of this discipline. Amongst these legends is Wangchannoi Sor Palangchai, an athlete who enjoyed great fame in the 1980s and 1990s. Now retired, Wangchannoi is one of those household names when it comes to Muay Thai.

His first steps in Muay Thai
Born on the 30th of May 1967, Wangchannoi Sor Palangchai started practicing Muay Thai at a very young age, when he was only ten years old. Like many other local Muay Thai champions, he was born and grew up in the province, before moving to Bangkok to start his professional career.

His track record
Although his fights have not been formally recorded, it is estimated that Wangchannoi has fought over 300 bouts, amongst which he experienced only about 50 losses. Known for his massive striking power, he stood out during many fights, including when he defeated Namphon Nongkee Pahuyuth at Lumpinee Stadium. He then won multiple titles at Lumpinee Stadium, in different categories. His numerous wins against legendary boxers, such as Samart Payakaroon, deemed one of the best Muay Thai boxers, earned him massive fame. In 1993, he even obtained the title of fighter of the year.
